The South Phoenix Drainage Improvement Project included construction of a basin at 43rd Avenue and Southern Avenue and a storm drain along 43rd Avenue from Baseline Road to approximately the Salt River. The basin includes three storm drain inlet structures, an inlet spillway, and an outlet to the 43rd Avenue storm drain. The basin-storm drain system provides 100-year protection for residents from flooding which had historically occurred in the area, as well as providing protection for a high school and elementary school.
An IGA between the District, the City of Phoenix and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) identified the District as the project lead. A cost share contribution was provided by MCDOT. The City of Phoenix committed to owning, operating and maintaining the completed project.
Owner and Maintenance: City of Phoenix
Storm drain construction was completed in 2000; basin construction was completed in 2005.
