To improve safety and reduce potential downstream flooding of Fountain Hills High School and existing residential developments, modifications to Golden Eagle Park Dam and its emergency spillway were designed and constructed to bring the dam into compliance with current Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) dam safety requirements. Golden Eagle Park Dam is a 28-foot high zoned eaarth-fill embankment dam. Prior to modifications, the dam was unable to safely pass the inflow design flood. Modifications resulted from the District's Fountain Hills Area Drainage Master Plan, completed in 1997, and a related feasibility study. The District was the lead on this project and, in accordance with the IGA, was a cost share partner with the Town of Fountain Hills, with the District providing 65% of the total costs. Fountain Hills High School was also a partner in the IGA, but was not involved in the cost share.
