This project consists of four basins directly along the CAP canal in Mesa, and one basin south of the Canal along Southern Avenue*. The purpose of these basins, recommended by the District's East Mesa Area Drainage Masper Plan, was to alleviate flooding downstream of CAP Canal overchutes. The basins are designed to remain dry for routine overflows (5-year storm events or smaller), but to retain water during major storm events and protect the area from flooding. The District was the lead on this project and was part of a cost share program through the IGA with the City of Mesa.
*Basin 5 on Southern Avenue renamed Parkwood Ranch Basin, due to proximity to a residential development.
Owner and Maintenance: City of Mesa
Construction was completed in 2001.
