This project was prioritized in the East Mesa Area Drainage Master Plan, and included construction of a flood control channel to mitigate existing and future flooding along Ellsworth Road, adjacent to General Motors Proving Ground and Williams Gateway Airport. Flooding occurred frequently at five dip crossings on the existing roadway prior to project construction. The channel project was constructed in conjunction with Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) upgrades to Ellsworth Road from Germann Road to one-third mile south of Guadalupe Road, and provides drainage for the road and capacity for the 100-year flood.
Phase 1 included the roadway from Germann Road to Ray Road and the channel. Phase 2 included the roadway from Ray Road north to one-third mile south of Guadalupe Road.
This was a joint project among the Flood Control District, the City of Mesa, and MCDOT. MCDOT was the lead agency for design and construction. Mesa owns, operates, and maintains the completed project.
Construction of both phases is complete.
