To mitigate historical flooding to Camelback Road and nearby communities and to reduce construction costs for road improvements, the Colter Channel was implemented. The unlined channel is located approximately ¼ mile north of Camelback Road and runs from Litchfield Road to the Agua Fria River. The District was the construction lead on the project and, in accordance with the IGA, shared costs with the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.
The District is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Colter Channel, excluding any landscaping, aesthetic and recreational improvements that may be implemented and maintained by others.Owner and Maintenance: Flood Control District

The project was completed in 1995.
