Description:

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) led efforts to improve Bell Road in the early 1990s. The District agreed to provide outfall elements necessary for regional flood control in the area in conjunction with this project. This included storm drains along 51st Avenue, 59th Avenue, 67th Avenue and 91st Avenue.

51st Avenue Storm Drain, Bell Road to Thunderbird Road:

This project consisted of a storm drain along 51st Avenue from Bell Road to the ASU West campus at Thunderbird Road. The City of Phoenix was the project lead and is responsible for all operation and maintenance of the drainage system. The District, Maricopa County and the cities of Phoenix and Glendale were shared project costs.

59th Avenue Storm Drain, Bell Road to Arizona Canal Diversion Channel:

As part of the Bell Road improvements, a storm drain was constructed along 59th Avenue from Bell Road to the Arizona Canal Diversion Channel. In addition to the channel, this project also constructed a detention basin near 59th Avenue and Greenway Road which decreased the size of pipe needed for the remainder of the drainage system. The City of Glendale was the project lead and is responsible for operation and maintenance of the project features. The City of Glendale and the District shared project costs.

67th Avenue Storm Drain, Bell Road to Arizona Canal Diversion Channel:

The storm drain, under the bell Road Drainage Improvements project, was constructed by the District. MCDOT was responsible for delegating operations and maintenance responsibilities to the City of Glendale.

91st Avenue and Bell Road Drainage:

As part of the Bell Road Improvements, a channel was constructed along 91st Ave between Bell Road and Greenway Road and along Greenway Road from 91st Avenue to the New River. The project was implemented in partnership with MCDOT. The District was the construction lead for the drainage projects and MCDOT was the construction lead for the roadway improvements. The City of Peoria is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project.
