Three earth-filled dikes (No. 1, 2, and 3) complement the main embankment. Controlled releases drain to the Cave Creek Wash downstream. The dam was constructed under U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) sponsorship. Operation and Maintenance: Flood Control District
Authorization: Flood Control Act of 1965
Federal Sponsor: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The project was completed in 1980. For information on the dam safety improvements planned via the Cave Buttes Dam Modification Project, see active projects listing.
