The 48th Street Drain was originally constructed by the Salt River Project (SRP) and extends from SR-143 west to the Salt River, aligned approximately ¼ mile south of University Drive. In 1966, the District partnered with SRP, the Salt River Valley Water Users Association, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the City of Tempe in reconstructing the drain to serve as a joint use storm drainage and irrigation waste facility. The facility provides an outfall for the City of Tempe's drainage system. The District operates and maintains the project from SR-143 to east of 32nd Street; Phoenix operates and maintains the project under 32nd Street; and ADOT is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project from the 32nd Street west right-of-way to the Salt River.Owner and Maintenance: Phoenix, ADOT, and the District
