In order to mitigate historical flooding, bank stabilization was implemented along the north bank of the Gila River near the Holly Acres Subdivision, and a levee was constructed. The project, a response to major flooding of the subdivision between 1978 and 1980, provides 100-year flood protection to the Holly Acres Subdivision and consists of gabions and riprap to provide bank stabilization and prevent further erosion of the riverbank. The District was the construction lead and in accordance with the IGA, was a cost share partner with the Arizona Department of Water Resources.
