The Roosevelt Irrigation District (RID) Canal Overchute project was implemented to mitigate historical ponding of stormwater and potential flooding along the north side of the RID Canal. The project consists of an overchute, siphon, overchute inlet channel, interceptor channels, basin outlet channel and modifications to three existing detention basins and outfalls to an existing drainage channel. The RID Canal Overchute provides 100-year flood protection and removed much of the floodplain north of the RID Canal. The District was the construction lead on the project, which was constructed in two phases. Routine operation and maintenance responsibilities are shared by the cities of Avondale and Litchfield Park and SunCor Development Company. The District is responsible for the structural integrity of the flood control features of the project.Operation and Maintenance: Avondale, Litchfield Park, District
