Within the Wittmann Area Drainage Master Study boundary, the District has initiated a new floodplain delineation study. This study, Wittmann Phase V, is located entirely within an unincorporated area of northwestern Maricopa County and consists of approximately nine linear miles of washes. The general study area is bounded by U.S. Highway 60 to the northeast, Douglas Ranch Road to the northwest, and Patton Road to the south. This project will delineate approximately nine linear miles of limited detail (without floodway) Zone AE floodplains within the Trilby Wash and Iona Wash watersheds.
Data collection is complete for the Phase V study area. A public meeting on August 14, 2012 presented the preliminary results of the floodplain delineations in the Phase V study area. Three previous studies in the area -- Wittmann/Surprise FDS, Wittmann Phase III, and Wittmann Phase IV -- have concluded and the results are now considered regulatory.
