The purpose of this project is to perform a detailed floodplain/floodway re-study for Scatter Wash North and South Branches within the City of Phoenix. The study results will include updated floodplains and floodways with regards to development activities within the associated watershed since the mid-1990's.

The study will use detailed topographic mapping to re-evaluate the extent of flood-prone areas along these watercourses. The results of the Study will be sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) request in the fall/winter of 2013.

The data collection phase and preliminary floodplain re-delineations are underway. Through cooperative efforts by the Arizona Department of Transportation and the City of Phoenix, the Scatter Wash study has undergone an Environmental Improvement Phase that included clearing the channel of excessive vegetation and debris. This Phase has concluded and is considered an early success in the project. Persons interested in learning more project details may contact the District's project manager, Richard P. Harris, P.E., CFM, at (602) 506-4528.
