The Lower Salt River FDS is a re-study being performed by the District in cooperation with the city of Phoenix. It will update approximately 15 miles of the effective Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) of the Lower Salt River in central Maricopa County, from near its confluence with the Gila River to near the 44th Street bridge in Phoenix.
The effective SFHA was delineated in the early to late 1990s by Michael Baker Jr. Engineering. Since that time there have been several significant changes to the riverbed within the study area. The District has obtained updated topographic mapping for the area that will be utilized to address such changes.
The attached document contains images and text showing the study area. The study is now completed, and FEMA has approved the proposed Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) changes. The updated FIRMs will become effective 2/10/17
