The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District) is conducting the Redelineation of Skunk Creek at Anthem to update approximately 3 linear miles of the Skunk Creek floodplain and floodway between Honda Bow Road and Desert Hills Drive.
The study area is located in an unincorporated area of northern Maricopa County in the vicinity of Anthem. It is generally bounded on the south by West Irvine Road, on the north by West Calvary Road, on the west by North 19th Avenue, and on the east by North 3rd Avenue.
Once the study is complete, impacted property owners will be notified of the results and invited to review and discuss the results with the District. The results will then be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review, approval, and incorporation onto the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the area. It typically takes approximately 9 months to a year for FEMA to approve a study of this size. In the interim, the study results will be shown on the District’s floodplain maps and used for floodplain management purposes.
The study is currently at FEMA for review.
The study is underway and is expected to be completed in mid 2016.
