Phase: Floodplain Delineation

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District) is conducting the Happy Valley Wash Floodplain Delineation Study to identify a floodplain and floodway for this watercourse. Happy Valley Wash flows into the Agua Fria River less than a mile southwest of 107th Avenue and Happy Valley Road. From that location the wash drains the hills to the north east. The study will establish approximately three linear miles of floodplain and floodway.

The study area is located in the City of Peoria and Unincorporated Maricopa County, Arizona.

Once the study is complete, impacted property owners will be invited to a public meeting to review its results. The study results will then be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review, approval, and incorporation onto the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the area. A study of this size typically takes approximately 9 months to a year for results to be integrated onto the FIRM. In the interim, the study information will be on the District’s floodplain map for floodplain management purposes.

As of June 2016, this study is under review at FEMA.
