The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District) is conducting the Palo Verde North Area Floodplain Delineation Study to update several Zone A (approximate) floodplains. The update will establish Zone AE floodplains with Base Flood Elevations (BFE’s) using improved mapping and updated hydrologic information.
The study is located within the western part of Maricopa County, and is generally bound by Campbell Avenue on the north, Pierce Street on the south, 372nd Avenue on the east, and 382nd Avenue on the west.
The study is complete. Impacted property owners can review the results online. The study technical documentation has been submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review and approval and will eventually be incorporated onto the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the area. FIRMS are special maps that show flood hazards for an area. They are produced as part of the County’s participation with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). It typically takes approximately 6 months to a year for FEMA to approve the technical documentation for a study. Incorporation onto the FIRMs can take up to 1 additional year. In the interim, the study information will be used as best available data for regulation purposes.
The study documentation was submitted to FEMA in September 2017. FEMA DFIRM changes are underway.
