Project Contact: Nazar Nabaty
Region: SW
District: 5 - Steve Gallardo
Phase: Design & Engineering
Description:

The District conducted the Laveen Area Drainage Master/Plan Update (ADMP/U) to develop and evaluate solutions to mitigate flooding hazards in the Laveen Area. This project is one of the recommend solutions from the ADMP/U to reduce the impacts from flooding. This project consists of the design and construction of a storm drain along Olney Avenue from west of 23rd Avenue to 27th Avenue, and then extending to the north along 27th Avenue all the way to South Mountain Avenue. The storm drain will outfall into the existing City of Phoenix basin located at the northeast corner of 27th and South Mountain Avenues. The project also includes the design and construction of two retention basins along 23rd Avenue south of Olney. The District will be the lead agency for the design and construction of the project and the City of Phoenix will contribute 50% of the project’s costs. Portions of the project are located within the City of Phoenix and portions are located in unincorporated Maricopa County.

Status:

Work is just beginning on this project. The terms and conditions of the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the District and the City of Phoenix are being negotiated. The IGA will have to be formally approved by both the City of Phoenix’s City Council and the District’s Board of Directors before the Design and Engineering phase can begin.
