The overall study will identify the current Special Flood Hazard Areas, SFHA, for Fountain Channel in the Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Fountain Channel is a tributary of Colony Wash which flows into the Verde River just east of Fort McDowell Road. The watershed lies within the central portion of the Town draining an urbanized area of about 0.7 square miles in area. This will be a restudy of an existing FEMA floodplain which was previously delineated by AGK as part of the Fountain Hills South Floodplain Delineation Study in 1996. Physical changes to the watershed and the floodplain area will be accounted for in the re-study. Hydrology and hydraulic models will be developed for the re-study using new topography flown in April 2017. The new hydrologic modeling will utilize NOAA Atlas 14 rainfall depth-frequency statistics. The effective delineated floodplain extends a length of about 0.5 miles.
