Phase: Floodplain Delineation
Description:

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District) is conducting the Cotton Lane Floodplain Delineation Study to remove and/or update several Zone A Floodplains using improved mapping and updated hydrologic information.

The study is located within the western part of Maricopa County, and is generally bound by Glendale Avenue on the north, Camelback Road on the south, the Loop 303 Freeway on the east, and the 172nd Lane alignment on the west.

Once the study is complete, impacted property owners will be notified and will be able to review the results online. The study results will then be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review and approval and will eventually be incorporated onto the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the area. FIRMS are special maps that show flood hazards for an area. They are produced as part of the County’s participation with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). It typically takes approximately 6 months to a year for FEMA to approve a study. Incorporation onto the FIRMs can take up to 1 additional year after FEMA approval. In the interim, the study information will be used as best available data for regulation purposes.
