The North Inlet Channel (NIC) Project, which was identified in the White Tanks Area Drainage Master Plan, included the construction of a channel along the east side of the Beardsley Canal from Olive Avenue to Northern Avenue, a splitter structure and road/canal crossing at Olive Avenue, a road/canal crossing at Northern Avenue, a road crossing at Northern Avenue and Beardsley Wash, erosion protection at Cholla Wash, and improvements to the existing channel west of Beardsley Canal and south of Northern Avenue. The 100-year flows formerly broke out across the Beardsley Canal, inundating a residential area. The NIC Project protects the Beardsley Canal between Olive Avenue and Northern Avenue, as well as approximately 118 homes east of the Beardsley Canal. This was a joint project with the Maricopa Water District (MWD), owner of the Beardsley Canal. The east side channel between Olive and Northern avenues is owned and maintained by MWD. The rest of the project is owned and maintained by the District.
