The Wittmann Area Drainage Master Plan (ADMP) was completed in June of 2009. The ADMP included approximately 308 square miles of area, including portions of unincorporated Maricopa County, the City of Peoria, the City of Surprise, and the Town of Buckeye. Approximately 90 square miles of the study area are held by State Trust, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and other government agencies. The study looked at drainage for the Iona, Trilby, Wittmann, and Padelford washes, among others, and it assessed issues associated with McMicken Dam and the Central Arizona Project.
The ADMP identified existing area flooding hazards as well as potential future flooding problems associated with impending development. The ADMP then made recommendations for regional projects to mitigate or reduce flooding problems, and it generated rules of development with policies, standards, and guidelines.
