Project Type: Study

Project Description:

View the map for FEMA changes to floodplain zones

This study started in 2015. The redelineation replaces the AO zones with 60 linear miles of AE flood zones with an additional 30 linear miles of new AE flood zones.

The results of the study were mailed to the public in 2016. The District also invited all property owners to public meetings to review and discuss the results of the study.

In March 2017, the District submitted the Fans 5 and 6 Redelineation Study to FEMA for review and approval. At that same time, the District began regulating development in the new floodplain.

The study was approved by FEMA in January 2018. FEMA delivered preliminary maps to the communities in August 2019 and held a meeting with community floodplain managers discussing the map changes.

In January 2020, FEMA issued the maps for public review. This federally mandated public appeal and protest period was held from January 16 to April 15, 2020. Communities and impacted property owners were provided the opportunity to submit technical information to FEMA if they believed the proposed floodplain delineation and water surface elevations were incorrect.

On July 20, 2021 the maps become effective, triggering the requirement for flood insurance for structures now located in the floodplain.
