Project Type: Study
Project Description:
In April 2022, FCD applied for a Letter of Map Revision from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to revise the 100-year floodplain and floodway along a portion of the Hassayampa River.
FEMA has approved the study. Property owners can review the results online. The results will be used by the City of Buckeye and unincorporated Maricopa County to regulate development within the floodplain.
View these changes HERE.
What does this mean?
FCD anticipates that FEMA will approve the revision by letter within the next 12 months. The FIRM map change may take several years. In the interim period, FCD will use the most restrictive of the effective or revised data for permitting purposes.
If the revision shows that your house is no longer in the floodplain, your lender may no longer require purchase of flood insurance. Flooding may still occur even in areas outside of delineated 100-year floodplains. Flood insurance is always recommended to protect your investment.

Flood Insurance
Owners can check with their insurance agent to see if they may qualify for lower premiums related to being Newly Mapped into the floodplain or if an elevation certificate could lower the premium.
Newly Mapped policies for either a home, contents or both are available if purchased within the first 12 months after a map update.

Project History
The District is conducting a study which will result in revisions to the Hassayampa River floodplain/floodway in unincorporated Maricopa County and the City of Buckeye. The floodplain to be studied is approximately 14.5 linear miles from Jackrabbit Wash to the confluence with the Gila River.
The District conducts floodplain and floodway delineation studies to identify and refine areas that are subject to inundation by a 100-year flood (one percent chance of occurring in any year).
The study is within Township 2 North, Range 5 West, Sections 22, 23, 26, 27, and 34, Township 1 North, Range 5 West, Sections 3, 10, 15, 22, 23, 26, 27 and 35, Township 1 South, Range 5 West, Sections 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25 and 26, and Township 1 South, Range 4 West, Sections 7, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 30.
FEMA has approved the study. Property owners can review the results online. The results will be used by the City of Buckeye and unincorporated Maricopa County to regulate development within the floodplain.
