Project Description:

The 115th Avenue and Union Hills Drive Drainage Improvement Project is a partnership between the Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District), the City of Peoria (Peoria), the City of Surprise (Surprise) and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT). The project includes approximately two miles of storm drains, basin improvements, channel improvements, maintenance roads adjacent to the project, and associated structures and features.

The main goal of the project is to intercept flood water that enters the project area from the northeast and convey the water to the Agua Fria River via existing and improved channels and/or storm drains. The project is designed for the 100-year storm event.

The project is located within the City of Peoria, City of Surprise and unincorporated Maricopa County. The project begins at Beardsley Road and 107th Avenue and ends south of Bell Road at the Agua Fria River.

The project is divided into three phases:

Phase 1

Improve the existing Sun City Drain along 115th Avenue from Agua Fria River to Bell Road as needed; widen the channel at the northeast corner of 115th Avenue and Bell Road to ensure the 100-year flood flows travel under the road; improve the channel drainage along 115th Avenue from Bell Road to Union Hills Drive; and add storm drains and catch basins at the intersection of 115th Avenue and Union Hills Drive and north along 115th Ave. to Doodah Lane.

Phase 2

Add a storm drain system along Union Hills Drive from 111th Avenue to 107th Avenue and along 107th Avenue (outletting to the Canyon Ridge Channel); add a storm drain system along 107th Avenue from Union Hills Drive to Palm Tree Drive; and improve the existing basins at the northwest and northeast corners of Union Hills Drive and 111th Avenue.

Phase 3

Improve the existing earthen channel along Beardsley Road from 115th Avenue to 111th Avenue; add a storm drain system along 115th Avenue from Union Hills Drive to Beardsley Road; and add a split flow junction structure at the northeast corner of Beardsley Road and 115th Avenue.
